James Lee Burke, THE TIN ROOF BLOWDOWN

PAM'S FAVORITE

tinroofblowdown.jpg Simon & Schuster, $26.00 (signed first edition)

Burke tackles Hurricane Katrina in his latest Dave Robicheaux novel, and this is his most ambitious book in a long time. Dave and his colleagues from the New Iberia Sheriff's Department are called in as relief in Katrina's aftermath, and Dave's investigation of the shooting of some looters comes much too close to home. THE TIN ROOF BLOWDOWN is also Burke's most personal book, and he powerfully brings that tragic event to life. His description of Katrina's devastation is vivid and heartbreaking; Robicheaux's anguish at the destruction of his city and the violence it spawns are heartfelt and real. Beautifully written, compassionate, and not to be missed.
