Patricia Daniels Cornwell, POSTMORTEM. Scribners: NY 1990, $250.00 (unsigned first edition, first printing). NF-/NF: Tight binding and very clean pages, but book has a slight spine slant from improper shelving: Some light fading to the black cloth at the front gutter bottom and on the front board; 1/2 x 1/8 inch dent on top front board: stray 1/2 inch pen mark on front free end paper; jacket is gorgeous and bright, but has a slight paperclip impression on the front top and is slightly rippled along the top and bottom front edges.

Dick Francis, DEAD CERT. Michael Joseph: London 1962, $8,500.00 (signed first edition, first printing, signed on the title page). NF+/VG: Price intact “15s NET.” Slight spine slant with very light foxing on top edges; aging along perimeter edges, but no tanning of page block, so pages are bright; cloth on top and bottom of spine is lightly pushed in; 1-1/2 inch aging line on both the front and back free end papers from binding to where both the front and back flaps are. Jacket still has bold colors, with several small spots of wear to the front surface along the right side edge; bottom front right corner has one inch wear and tear up the right edge; top corner is chipped and has 1/4 inch tear; lightly worn and wrinkled at top spine; one inch tear at spine bottom with another 1/4 inch wear and tear toward the front gutter. A lovely copy of a very rare and signed book. This is the first Dick Francis novel.

F-/NF+: Binding square and tight with bright pages; front and back bottom corners very slightly dented; very light wear of cloth at top and bottom spine edges. There is no writing, marks or bookplates in the book. Dust jacket has several small surface cracks along front flap fold; one inch crease at bottom edge near bottom front corner; Orange and red lettering of DEAD CERT on spine very lightly faded, but still bold; residual glue from a gum label at bottom spine is apparent across publisher name; crease of 1- 1 1/2 inch on back jacket near top and toward spine. Price intact $3.50. Overall, a sharp copy of the U.S. first edition, with the original dust jacket and seldom seen in this nice of condition.

NF-/VG: Pages bright with no hint of tanning or aging; moderate spine slant; light foxing along top and side edges; light shelf wear along bottom edges; light discoloration of cloth at spine top and one inch semicircle on back board at the gutter. Dust Jacket with “16s net” price; lightly stained on top 2 inches of spine, light wear at the corners; chipped along a 1/2 inch tear bottom spine at front gutter; 3 inch tear starting at front top gutter, 1 inch down gutter then 2 inches across to back cover, chipped along tear on front cover; soiling to back cover. The second Dick Francis book.

Dick Francis, NERVE. Harper & Row: NY 1964, $350.00 (unsigned first edition, first printing). F-/NF-: Review copy with publisher slip laid in; From the library of Dorothy B. Hughes with her signature at the bottom of the half-title page. Bright, tight and square pages; Cloth at top and bottom of spine lightly pushed in. Price of $3.95 present on a non-clipped jacket; Colors on jacket are bright with just a hint of fading of the red on the spine, some wear of the color in several spots along the center of the spine and at the top of the spine; some wrinkling of the top 1 inch along the top front, spine and back of the cover.

Dick Francis, RAT RACE. Michael Joseph: London 1970, $150.00 (unsigned first edition, first printing). NF/ VG+: Moderate spine slant; aging along perimeter edges, but no tanning of page block, so pages are bright; small faint 1/4 inch stain on middle of front board. Dust jacket has small chips at the corners and at the spine top; colors are bold and defined; light wrinkling of front top and bottom edges; back cover has light wrinkling throughout, possibly from moisture. Price intact “30s net £1.50”. This is the ninth Dick Francis novel.

NF+/F-: Binding square and tight with bright pages; small indent to page edges of pages 170-200, small paperclip impression on top edge of first five pages. Dust jacket price clipped, else fine. This is the sixteenth Dick Francis novel.

Dick Francis, REFLEX. Michael Joseph: London 1981, $30.00 (unsigned first edition, first printing). VG+/NF-: Slight spine slant with light soiling to bottom page edges; lightly bruised top and bottom boards at spine on front and back boards; cloth wrinkled along length of spine. Thin, raised laminate line at mid-gutter to the bottom of the page and like fault where the spine meets the front page. Several small, thin 1/4 inch lines of raised laminate on front cover near spine. This is the nineteenth Dick Francis Novel

Ed McBain, AX. Simon and Schuster: London 1964, $120.00 (unsigned first edition, first printing). NF-/NF: Moderate spine slant, but pages are tightly bound; pages lightly aged with 1/2 inch tanning around page edges; there is a very small dent to the bottom edge of the front board. The dust jacket is bright and clean; there is a small nick of the edge near the top back corner; there are several wrinkles on the back panel at the top; there is a 4 inch scratch across the front of the jacket near the bottom which traverses the spine and continues across the back for another 5 inch. This is one of the most difficult 87th Precinct series titles to find.
