September Sisters in Crime/LA Meeting
sheila_lowe2.jpgpibarrington.jpg SHEILA LOWE discusses her work and P.I. BARRINGTON reads from BUTTON HOLLOW CHRONICLES #1: The Leaf Peeper Murders We are always glad to serve as booksellers at the monthly meeting of Sisters in Crime/Los Angeles. This month's speaker is handwriting expert and author Sheila Lowe, who will discuss what handwriting shows about how to motivate people. Lowe's Forensic Handwriting Mystery series features handwriting expert Claudia Rose; the latest entry is LAST WRITES (Signet paperback original, $6.99), published in July. This month's reader is P.I. Barrington, co-author (with Loni Barrington) of BUTTON HOLLOW CHRONICLES #1: The Leaf Peeper Murders, first in a new series set in a small New Hampshire town. All are welcome, but a $5.00 donation is requested of nonmembers. The South Pasadena Public Library is at 1100 Oxley Street in South Pasadena; for more information, call 626-403-7340 or visit www.sistersincrimela.com.

westerson.jpg JERI WESTERSON discusses and signs her books at the PALMS-RANCHO PARK LIBRARY
Jeri Westerson's "medieval noir" mysteries feature Crispin Guest, a disgraced knight who has created a new life for himself as "the Tracker." The third book in the series, THE DEMON'S PARCHMENT (Minotaur, $25.99), is due out in October; Guest and his apprentice, Jack Tucker, search for stolen Hebrew manuscripts for one of London's only Jews, a physician at the King's court. We loved the earlier books, VEIL OF LIES (St. Martin's Griffin trade paperback, $14.99), and SERPENT IN THE THORNS (Minotaur trade paperback, $14.99). Admission to this event is free; the Palms-Rancho Park Library is at 2920 Overland Ave., Los Angeles. Call 310-840-2142 for directions and more information.
