BOBBY'S OTHER FAVORITE John Connolly, THE WHISPERERS Atria, $26.00 (first edition with signed tipped–in page and limited edition CD) Connolly's latest Charlie Parker novel is one more advance in a series that gets sharper and deeper with every book. This time out, the Maine–based PI investigates the suicide of a recently–returned Iraq war veteran, and discovers a smuggling ring that is transporting uniquely dangerous goods across the US–Canadian border. The author is well–known and loved at The Mystery Bookstore; Clair says, "I had a front–row seat for some of the research for this book, so I can't pretend to be objective – but THE WHISPERERS worked for me as both thriller and social history, a deeply compassionate look at the plight of the men who went to war and came back changed." Each book comes with a copy of Love & Whispers, a CD compilation of music that inspired or is mentioned in the Parker novels. Please contact us directly to purchase this title. You may email

BOBBY'S OTHER FAVORITE
REBECCA CANTRELL discusses and signs A NIGHT OF LONG KNIVES Forge, $24.99 BOBBY'S OTHER FAVORITE Three years after the events of A TRACE OF SMOKE, journalist Hannah Vogel is living in South America with her adopted son, Anton, and vows never to return to Germany while the Nazis are in power. An assignment to report on a zeppelin journey from South America to Switzerland is too lucrative to pass up, but when the zeppelin is diverted to Munich, Hannah and Anton are in mortal danger. They are kidnapped and separated. The man who claims to be Anton's real father, SA commander Ernst Roehm, has resolved to get his son back, but Roehm himself falls victim to the internal Nazi purge known as the Night of the Long Knives. Hannah must find Anton before the Nazis do, because Hitler is determined to wipe out every trace of Roehm – including any possible heirs. This is a terrific follow–up to SMOKE; the writing is polished, and compels you to finish the book in one sitting. Please contact us directly to purchase this title. You may email

A DARK BOBBY BONUS PICK
Linda Castillo, PRAY FOR SILENCE Minotaur $24.99 (unsigned first edition) In this sequel to SWORN TO SILENCE, Police Chief Kate Burkholder investigates the murder of the Planks, an Amish family whose 15–year–old daughter had gotten involved with the wrong man. This is a very hard-boiled procedural, in the tradition of Karin Slaughter and Mo Hayder. I really liked the beginning of SWORN TO SILENCE, but could never find time to finish it; this second book demands your attention from the beginning and doesn't let up. Lots of blood, guts and gore, with some very nasty things going on. Please contact us directly to purchase this title. You may email

STEVE HAMILTON discusses and signs THE LOCK ARTIST Minotaur, $24.99 JANUARY CRIME CLUB SELECTION Mike is an 18-year-old boy who shouldn't be alive; by some miracle, he survived an unimaginable trauma ten years earlier. The tragedy left him mute, but he discovers an unexpected talent: he understands the secrets of any lock, whether it's a gym locker padlock or a bank vault combination. It's a talent that draws the attention of some dangerous people, and Mike finds himself involved in a life he never wanted, desperate to figure out his way back to the life he dreams of. We love Steve Hamilton's Alex McKnight series, but this standalone is a major step forward in his already-brilliant career. |
